History

Ryazan State University named after S.A. Yesenin is the oldest higher educational institution in the Ryazan land. Its history begins in the harsh years of the First World War. Then, on September 7, 1915, Emperor Nicholas II approved the decision of the Council of Ministers to open Russia's first female teachers' institute in Ryazan. This decision was put into practice a few weeks later: by his telegram dated September 27, 1915, sent to the trustee of the Moscow Educational District, A. Tikhomirov, the Minister of Public Education of the Russian Empire, Count Peter Nikolaevich Ignatiev, authorized the opening of a women's teaching institute in Ryazan.

The outbreak of the World War in July 1914, which clearly proved Russia's serious lag in terms of education and the availability of qualified personnel, gave a new impetus to the aspirations of the local community to turn one of the oldest Russian cities into a genuine provincial education center. We are aware of the importance of social responsibility and actively involve students in projects aimed at improving society. Our mission is not only to train qualified professionals, but also to educate citizens who are ready to contribute to the development of their communities.
