yazan State University named after S.A. Yesenin is the oldest higher educational institution in the Ryazan region. Its history begins in the harsh years of the First World War.
Back then, on September 7, 1915, Emperor Nicholas II approved the decision of the Council of Ministers to open the first women's teacher training institute in Russia in Ryazan. This decision was put into practice several weeks later: by his telegram of September 27, 1915, sent to the trustee of the Moscow educational district A. Tikhomirov, the Minister of Public Education of the Russian Empire Count Pyotr Nikolaevich Ignatiev gave permission to open a women's teacher training institute in Ryazan.
