The Department of general, theoretical physics and methods of teaching physics was founded in 1934 as the Department of physics.
A significant contribution to the development of the department was made by A.V. Peryshkin, laureate of the USSR State Prize (1978) (for his textbooks of Physics for the 6th and the 7th grades, published in 1976), V.P. Orekhov, V.I. Kuryshev, V.A. Stepanov, E.M. Reichrudel, N.I. Grachev, E.A. Korzun.
The department maintains 15 specialized classrooms and 2 research laboratories, and the scientific and educational center "Mera".
The main areas of scientific activity are: quadrupole mass spectrometry, technology and physics of semiconductor structures
theory and methods of teaching physics
integration of education, science and production.
The department closely cooperates with industrial partners: OOO “Kvantron Group,” OOO “NPF Shibbolet,” OOO NPP Alexander,” PAO “Plant Krasnoe Znamya,” AO “Ryazan Radio Plant,” OOO “Vacuum Technologies,” ZAO “Laservariorakurs”.
