The Department of the Russian language and methods of its teaching is the legal successor of the Department of Russian Language, founded in 1939.
The main areas of research activities of the department: "Study of the Russian language system in synchrony and diachrony," "Philological aspects of teaching Russian," "Russian language in the educational paradigm of the 21st century: axiology of learning," "Current problems of methods of teaching Russian".
The personnel of the department are members of the regional board of the Unified State Exam in Russian.
The department has organized a scientific and methodological platform "Initiative" to conduct workshops and master classes on a regular basis for literature teachers of Ryazan and the region, students, master's students and postgraduates, where participants are introduced to new technologies in teaching Russian, shown methods and techniques for organizing research activities of students, and discuss current issues related to the implementation of the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard in Russian language lessons. The audiences listen to well-known methodologists from leading Russian universities.
