The Department of Russian History and methods of teaching history and social science was founded in 1939 as the Department of USSR History. It is one of the oldest departments in the Ryazan Region.
Over the years, such prominent historians as N.P. Milonov, V.N. Rozental, A.G. Kuzmin, I.P. Popov, L.V. Chekurin, V.P. Frolov, N.G. Sokolov, Yu.V. Fulin, E.S. Stepanova have worked at the department.
The interest field include insufficiently studied and controversial problems of the history of Russia and the Ryazan region: agrarian history of the 20th century, the Ryazan Region during the Cold War, foreign policy of the early 20th century, modernization in the second half of the 19th century, the history of the Ryazan women's diocesan school, military issue in the revolutionary movement, the development of the financial system in the 19th century, as well as current issues in the methodology of teaching history and social science.
Today, the department is on the frontier of historical science, which is confirmed by support of our research by the Russian Science Foundation and links with leading universities and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
