The department of the English language and methods of teaching it traces its history back to the Department of foreign languages, which was founded simultaneously with the Faculty of foreign languages in 1946.

The lecturers of the department constantly improve the content of educational and teaching activities in the implementation of the main educational programs. The department consistently carries out its career guidance policy, with potential employers involved in solving issues of employment and career growth of young specialists.

The department has accumulated a large fund of educational and methodological materials, including modern fiction, donated by the Oxford Foundation. It has an extensive video library and rich reference literature. Students also have access to a large number of reference materials and teaching aids in the local computer network.
The department actively cooperates with universities in Russia and abroad.
