The department of health protection and life safety was organized by order of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR in 1960 as a course on "Civil defense and medical training of civil defense nurses". The curriculum was designed for 360 classroom hours. From 1963 to 1991, it trained 10,139 nurses. Later the state approach to the number and content of disciplines taught at the department changed several times.
Currently, in accordance with the requirements of federal state educational standards, students of all areas are taught a single course on life safety in the amount of 72 classroom hours, and in a number of areas of training: the disciplines "Basics of medical knowledge", " Basics of labor safety", " Basics of social medicine".
V.F. Gorbich made a great contribution to the development of this department.
The research work of the department is focused on the study of medical, social, psychological and pedagogical aspects of the work of a secondary school teacher.
